Tommy Hilfiger and Zendaya Brought the Party to Paris Fashion Week

Tommy Hilfiger’s collaboration with Zendaya finally hit the runway this weekend. When initial images of the collection were released two weeks ago, it was revealed that the duo took inspiration from The Battle of Versailles — the 1973 fashion show in which American designers went head-to-head with their Parisian counterparts. Being two Americans in Paris, Hilfiger and Zendaya built on the historical reference for the show, a ’70s-themed bash that lit up the week.

A crowd of 1,350 guests were treated to an elaborate disco-inspired event. The space had a pop-up shop where guests could get their hands on the collection, while the runway floor lit up, adding to the party vibe of the show. Pat Cleveland — who walked in the original Versailles show — danced her way down the catwalk, as did Beverly Johnson (the first African-American model to cover of American Vogue), Veronica Webb (the first African American to sign a major cosmetics contract with Revlon), supermodel/actress Beverly Peele, as well as ‘90s supermodels Debra Shaw, Chrystèle Saint Louis Augustin, and Brandi Quinones.

As one might guess, the collection also embodied the ’70s. Drawing from the aforementioned Battle of Versailles, as well as Hilfiger’s first foray into fashion — his boutique People’s Place — the looks paid homage to the era of disco and glam. High-waisted trousers, silky shirts, and flowing dresses felt modern while still keeping true to their references. Hand-drawn zodiac prints popped up alongside tailored suiting. With daywear, eveningwear, and office wear on display, there was a little something for everyone.

For the grand finale Grace Jones took to the runway, surprising the crowd and getting everyone fired up. The 70-year-old model/singer/actress/icon was a highlight of the show, strutting in a bodysuit and metallic blazer, paired with chic thigh-high boots. Thankfully fans won’t have to wait to get their hands on the wares. As Hilfiger has been operating for the past few years, the collection is entirely “see now, buy now.” In fact, it hit his website right after the show!
