Makeup master Tom Pecheux has been named YSL Beauté’s global beauty director, L’Oréal announced today. The former Estée Lauder creative director has been behind the makeup looks for the runways and campaigns of top designers, from Saint Laurent to Givenchy to Chanel, as well as editorials. He’s replacing Lloyd Simmons, who held the role for over six years. In his new position, Pecheux will continue his work with Anthony Vaccarello as well as a variety of other designers.
The appointment comes after L’Oréal experienced a high period of growth; according to Business of Fashion, in November 2016, the beauty behemoth reported that sales in the third quarter of its financial year rose by 5.6 percent, which was higher than the industry expected.
“YSL Beauté is run by a group of people that I met and I really liked and that was very important for me because it’s like getting married,” Pecheux told BoF. “Whenever you sign a deal or you sign a contract, it had better be with people you like. I like what they have been doing for the last couple of years and it’s totally worth it, to give it a try and hopefully to make it succeed and be successful.”
