Handsome Kristopher Haigh likes baseball caps so much that he’s launched 1K, a line of minimal, modern haute-cool hats that are all made in Brooklyn. 1K’s e-commerce site launched yesterday and guys are clicking ‘buy’ as we speak. To get the 411 on K1, I spoke to Kris.
Congratulations on 1K!
I have wanted to do my own line for years. I had played around with a bunch of ideas, but none of them felt right or fresh enough. Then I thought, I love baseball caps but I can’t always find easy simple affordable designs out there that I like, so why not make them? I do love a lot of high end designer hats, but I don’t always want to spend $150 or more for a baseball cap. I wanted to start with a classic six-panel hat because one size fits all. I don’t normally like hats with big bold writing and team embroidery all over them. I prefer clean, minimal, contemporary design, so I decided to start a line of hats that are designed but not over done. One of the great things about making this line is that its made in the USA, in Brooklyn, where I work with local factories. Making it here and being able to visit the factory just makes the whole process feel more authentic and traditional. At the same time, we’re supporting our local businesses.
How many baseball caps do you own yourself?
Not that many. I would say 15…and most of them are black.
Who is the 1K dude?
My hats are for anyone who is interested in clean, contemporary fashion, but doesn’t want to pay a high-end designer price for a hat. That could apply to people of all different ages.
