Couture shows? Ain’t nobody got time for that. At least Riccardo Tisci doesn’t this season. The brand’s creative director is once again skipping the Paris Couture shows due to his busy schedule. One bonus of Tisci getting a little more time on his hands is the news that Givenchy will be reviving their wristwatch collection, which was discontinued in 2009. Gotta stay on track of that busy schedule somehow.
Another dose of Proenza power this week: after picking up top womenswear honors, for the third time, at the CFDA Awards on Monday, yesterday brought news that Proenza Schouler’s designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez are retooling the (still very chic!) looks from their very first collection, conceived circa 2003, for an exclusive Barneys New York capsule collection. Expect a few design updates, including better patternmaking, since, as the duo told NY Times’ Eric Wilson, the designers “weren’t the best patternmakers” back in the day. The tweaking process included an expansion of the range: Proenza’s premiere collection was comprised of 11 pieces, and the 2.0 version includes 19 items.
In random news of the denim-sphere…Last night, the Nate D. Sanders auction house in Los Angeles sold a pair of 501 Levi’s worn by Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain for a whopping $21,013. The weathered trous, sized 34 x 36 inches, came with a pair of faded yellow workman gloves with “Ennis” (Ledger’s character in the film) written in black marker on the inside. Coincidentally, the jeans sold exactly 140 years after Levi Strauss invented his iconic 501s.
Hate to start the week off with such whompy news, but a spokesperson for Katie Holmes has told Vogue UK that a clothing line for daughter Suri Cruise is “100 percent” false. Say it ain’t so. Last week The Sun reported that the little cutie was working on a new line called Suri to be sold in unnamed department stores before taking over the world, but alas…one of their writers was just having a little fun with us.
Juicy! Gwyneth Paltrow tells USA Today that despite all her faboo friends being in the room, she no likey The Met Ball on Monday. “I’m never going again,” she reveals. “It was so un-fun. It was boiling. It was too crowded. I did not enjoy it at all.” Who’s going to pass on this news to you know who?
In light of this week’s somber news, Cosmo’s Sergio Kletnoy gives us a briefer than usual glimpse into his life as of late. P.S. Happy early birthday to JoCo’s right-hand man! “Although the sun is finally shinning and spring is kind-of here, this week felt a bit gloomy. The days seem longer, and the images on the news are dark and disturbing.
Start spreading the news…Two iconic New Yorkers and old chums met up last night at the Tribeca Film Festival for the Mistaken For Strangers premiere. Ladies and gents, it’s Liza Minnelli and Robert DeNiro, who famously co-starred together in the 1977 Scorsese film, New York, New York. They’re still gonna be a part of it…
Any journalist out there can relate to this situation…You think you’ve got an interview all set up and then a publicist gives you the annoying news that there’s only time for one question. (Which is far better than the ghastly “group” interview, but still kinda sucks.) Malcolm Venville had this happen when he was on the way to interview Karl Lagerfeld and made a funny vid documenting the experience for Nowness.
More details are emerging about the costumes that Beyoncé is wearing for the “Mrs. Carter Show” that kicked off last night in Belgrade, Serbia. (Naturally!) Emilio Pucci’s Peter Dundas created five costumes for Mrs. Carter to strut her stuff on stage. The designer drew inspiration from their fall collection “reinterpreting the rock goddess theme through fabrics and proportions.”
