The’60s have struck again! On Frida Giannini’s runway at Gucci that meant ultra-covetable and sellable looks. Magazines also know a thing or two about what sells, so it’s no wonder that Gianni’s collection last season landed her a total of 108 cover placements for 2013. That’s the most for any brand last year. And from the looks of this collection the brand may have a repeat success for 2014.

Gucci
Guests at Gucci’s staple Milanese show location at the Piazza Oberdan mingled with flutes of prosecco in hand before entering the sleek venue. Nothing like a sip of bubbly to prepare oneself for the brand’s blend of moody sex appeal and flash! But this season, Frida Giannini added a decidedly sportif dose to the mix. Glittery purple and magenta patterned caftans and kimono-like tops flowed down the runway. Black mesh details got revealed throughout the collection, in the form of racer back tops, sleeves, teeny tiny triangle bikini tops, and baggy drawstring pants. Models with that “wet hair†look that’s having such a moment (still!) strode down the runway looking as if they had just stepped out of the pool and thrown on their flashiest cover-up to head straight to the disco. -
Leave it up to the Gucci glamour girl Frida Giannini to recreate the Seventies in the sleekest way possible. Teaming up with director Ron Howard, the creative director will be designing costumes for the film RUSH. Giannini went deep into the Gucci archives (lucky gal!) to pull inspiration for the costumes worn by Chris Hemsworth and Olivia Wilde, who are the lead actors in this flick about Formula 1.
