Michael Kors will be returning to his alma mater, FIT, this year to accept the esteemed Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion, presented by the Couture Council of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. The designer is scheduled to be honored during a benefit luncheon at the David H. Koch Theater in Lincoln Center to commence New York Fashion Week on September 4. In previous years, Kors has been nominated for the award by a seasoned committee of industry heavyweights in fashion journalism, retail, and museum curation, but this marks his first win. And, as expected, he’s in good company. Past recipients of awards doled out by the Couture Council are Giorgio Armani, Karl Lagerfeld, Oscar de la Rents, Alber Elbaz, and Valentino to name a few.
Is today our lucky day? What a joy to stumble upon Germany’s very own Harald Glöckler! The self-dubbed Prince of Fashion was in his hometown of Berlin today to celebrate his latest book, Billy King – Mein Leben mit Harald Gloeoeckler. Harald co-wrote the book with his beloved pup, Billy. How we’ve missed him! Here are a few gems from our interview with him last year that still make us happy on the inside.
After four consecutive years of punctuating September’s NYFW circuit of Spring shows, Fashion’s Night Out is taking a breather this fall in the U.S. Instead of a one-night bonanza of celeb cameos, gratis cocktails, and general retail-centric pandemonium spilling out into the streets from SoHo to the UES, expect budgets to get allocated to events peppered throughout the year instead. The decision to put FNO on a hiatus was reached by Vogue, CFDA, and NYC & Co., all of whom sponsor the event.

Plus one, much? Sharon Socol took her love of photography and her VIP social calendar and turned it into a just released book, Plus One: An Outsider’s Photographic Journey Into The World of Fashion. Last night at the Madison Ave. Barney’s New York flagship, some of Socol’s impressive pals including Narcisco Rodriguez, Simon Doonan, Tommy and Dee Hilfiger, David Neville, Marcus Wainwright, Gilles Bensimon, Jenna Lyons, Courtney Crangi, and Thakoon Panichgul came out for cocktails to celebrate the launch of the book. Socol tells The Daily how she got such behind the scenes access and about her genuine thrill in landing in Barney’s window. (It’s not just because of her hubby’s former gig. She’s lovely!)
