In the market for a fresh hair accouterment? Look no further than the runways of Seoul, specifically the wraparound monkey headbands perched in the coifs at Steve J & Yoni P’s Spring ’14 show. The show’s a biggie on the Seoul schedule, and it had a rollicking energy akin to our beloved Betsey Johnson’s cartwheel-addled spectacles. Case in point: the designers took their bows by skateboarding down the catwalk.
Where’s the party during fashion week? It’s always backstage at Betsey Johnson where the champagne flows, the cupcakes tempt, and BJ’s effervescent personality charms reporters, models, even the Lincoln Center security lighten up a bit. We brought our cameras backstage before her show to find out how much time she spent rehearsing her cartwheel and what she was going to do to celebrate the collection. (Hint: It involves bubbles.)
There’s nobody on the East End quite like Betsey Johnson. The Daily Summer caught up with the legendary designer about why she had to ax her summer vacation, her fear of jellyfish, and how her love life is going. Deep!

What would a Hamptons summer be without a Daily dose of Betsey Johnson and her chic ‘spring, Lulu? We checked in with the mother-daughter duo for our inaugural Daily Summer glossy to find out what’s on the horizon. Will you be in the Hamptons this season? Betsey: Full speed ahead! We’ll be out there in June and July.
For a few hours yesterday afternoon, Betsey Johnson took up residency in a window display of Macy’s Herald Square. The shock factor, considering Johnson’s track record of kooky antics, is fairly low, but the throngs of Betsey fanatics clustered outside the 34th Street window can attest to how riveting it is to watch le Betsey in action as she decked out mannequins in frocks from her eponymous frock line. Especially when there’s paint splashed everywhere, (empty!) champagne bottles strewn on the floor, and the designer’s adorable granddaughter making a cameo. Aww alert! Paying close attention? Good, because you’ll need to in order to follow Betsey’s delightfully scattered trains of thought. She was busy painting when the Daily dropped into the window, after all…
Betsey Johnson’s baaaaaack! She channeled all things aerobics-y in the most eighties, delightfully campy fashion possible for Fall ’13… You worked out on the runway.
When I was doing my reality show, I realized that I gotta move! I started working out with a trainer, but I realized that I like dancercise more than the treadmill.
Why not shop for a cause? For the entire month of February, jcpenney is joining forces with Dress For Success as part of their JCP Cares giving program. The non-profit is known for decking out ladies in stylish duds that are appropriate for the work force. The objective: ensuring women look and feel their best whether they’re nabbing a gig, transitioning into a job, or already gainfully employed. How can you contribute?
You can add Betsey Johnson’s name to the growing list of designers who are sitting out NYFW in February. (Skipping this season appears to be theeee thing.) Don’t count the legendary designer out just yet. She’s still focusing on new initiatives such as a dress launch, another fragrance, and her eagerly anticipated Style Network reality show with daughter Lulu.
