Summer Vibes with Ramy Sharp

by Sydney Sadick

For Ramy Brook designer Ramy Sharp, summer on the East End doesn’t come without its fair share of work-related duties. But after successfully executing a pop-up shop at Navy Beach to benefit the Navy SEAL Foundation, Sharp is ready for some well-deserved R&R. How does she do it? She tells us in the pages of the Daily Summer.

First things first: How was your pop-up party?
It was amazing. We couldn’t have asked for a better day—the weather was beautiful and the crowd was fabulous! From the minute the pop-up opened, we had women shopping and mingling. It was great to introduce the brand to those who haven’t seen our collection before, as well as see women who have been fans of the brand since the start. Navy Beach is definitely the go-to place in Montauk during the summer, and throughout the day there were so many families enjoying lunch and dinner, in addition to some of my closest friends who came to support.

Why did you partner with the Navy SEAL Foundation?
It’s such an important organization that helps servicemen and -women, as well as their families. It is a cause that is close to the owners of Navy Beach, which we were happy to support.

What were the best sellers of the day?
The cover-ups were the crowd favorites. They’re great pieces to throw on as you head to the beach and can easily be dressed up with a belt or simple jewelry if you’re heading to dinner or cocktails.

How’s your summer?
I can’t complain! While busy, I’ve been lucky enough to get in some travel, including Italy and Turkey. Any free time we have we spend as a family in the Hamptons.

What’s your ideal beach-to-dinner look?
The Ramy Brook summer collection is really focused on versatile pieces that can take you from the beach to dinner, but one of my favorite pieces has to be the Paris sleeveless dress. It’s a flattering piece that can be dressed up or down based on the occasion. For those chilly beach nights, we have a version of this dress with long sleeves.

Where else are you selling the line on the East End?
Kyle by Alene Too in Southampton. They are one of the first stores that sold my line when I started the company five years ago.

What’s your preferred method of entertaining?

We love having our friends and family over, which works out perfectly because my husband, Rob, is an amazing cook and I love to entertain! We’ve been so busy this summer, but we’ve had a few small dinner parties with close friends. Just recently, we invited the whole Ramy Brook team to our home in Bridgehampton, where we spent the day swimming, hanging out, and of course, eating amazing food.

What’s the most-worn piece from your new collection?

To this day, this is still one of the hardest questions for me to answer! For the summer, I always love the pieces in the collection made in Japanese tech fabric. It’s such an easy fabric, and the pieces that are crafted with this material—such as our Pamela top, Meryl jumpsuit, and Lindsay dress—are so breezy, sexy, and easy to wear. You can pack them in your weekend bag and throw them on without any maintenance. You can’t go wrong!

What’s your best tip for transitioning your wardrobe from summer to fall?
“Buy now, wear now” is an important element of the collection, but we also believe that pieces shouldn’t be limited to one season. Our favorite summer styles also work for fall when you add a chic leather jacket or sweater. Color is also key when it comes to transitioning your wardrobe—pieces in unexpected neutral, such as a blush, are really great, as they can be worn with light separates in the summer months and then paired with darker colors for the fall.

What’s the latest from your new flagship in Soho?
The store is doing great. I can’t believe we’re about to hit our one-year anniversary! I try to spend a few days a week there, so I can meet the women who wear Ramy Brook. I love to hear their stories and create looks just for them!
