Style Takes Center Stage: Elton John Hosts First-Ever ‘Style Icon’ Competition

by Tom White

Elton John has never been one to blend in. From the oversized glasses to the glittering suits, every look he wears tells a story. Now, the global music legend is inviting others to tell theirs. Together with CEO of Rocket Entertainment Group and Chair of the Elton John AIDS Foundation David Furnish and makeup legend Charlotte Tilbury, Elton has launched the inaugural Style Icon competition, an online celebration of individuality that turns self-expression into social impact.

Powered by professional fundraiser Colossal and benefiting the Elton John AIDS Foundation, the competition calls on designers, creators, and fashion lovers across the U.S. and Canada to showcase their signature style for a cause. Competitors will gain exclusive fashion content throughout the competition process. One standout will earn a $20,000 cash prize, a feature in Flaunt Magazine, and coveted tickets to Versace’s 2026 Milan Fashion Week show.

“We’re calling on fashion’s boldest voices to step into the spotlight for our Style Icon competition, where showcasing your signature style supports the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s critical mission to save lives,” said David Furnish. “This is more than a search for the next trendsetter — it’s an opportunity to prove that true style icons use their platform and influence to create meaningful change in the world.”

That spirit of confidence and compassion defines the collaboration. For Charlotte Tilbury, it’s an extension of her lifelong belief that beauty can empower as much as it dazzles. “Darlings, there is so much JOY to be found in glamour! When changemakers, beauty lovers, and fashion icons unite for a cause this powerful, we don’t just follow trends — we set them and spark transformation,” she said. “I am so proud to champion this magical mission with the Elton John AIDS Foundation — and I can’t wait to see all the GORGEOUS, CONFIDENT style stars shining their light and making an impact!”

At its heart, Style Icon is about transformation of both wardrobe and world. Participants submit a photo and short description that capture their personal look, then share their profile to gather votes from fans, friends, and followers. Each person can cast one free vote per day, while donation-based votes ($1 each) benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s lifesaving work.

The initiative builds on Colossal’s growing legacy of connecting creativity with charity. Known for high-profile online competitions like Baby of the Year, Favorite Chef, and Fab Over 40, the organization has helped raise more than $269 million for nonprofits such as Baby2Baby, James Beard Foundation, and National Breast Cancer Foundation, and now the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

The campaign lands at a fitting moment on the fashion calendar. With global Fashion Week circuits returning to full force and designers embracing individuality on and off the runway, the launch of Style Icon feels like an open invitation to join that momentum. It’s both creative and wildly inclusive, serving as a reminder that style doesn’t just happen in Milan or Paris, but anywhere confidence meets creativity.

Behind the sparkle and spotlight lies a serious mission: Since 1992, the Elton John AIDS Foundation has worked to end AIDS for everyone, everywhere, tackling stigma and expanding access to care. By blending artistry, technology, and activism, Style Icon invites a new generation to continue that legacy with creativity as its currency. Because as Elton John reminds us, true icons don’t just define trends — they define what fashion can do.
