Sophia Webster On Her Haute Newest Heels And (Sometimes) Wearing Flats

by The Daily Front Row

A very girly crew descended on Saks Fifth Avenue last night for a presentation of Sophia Webster’s Spring 2014 kicks. The shoppable collection benefitted the New York Foundation for the Arts, and was accompanied with champagne flutes, mini bites of dessert and tunes from DJ Chelsea Leyland. Your Daily got to chat with the shoe maven about her latest creations…

What inspired this collection?
A Japanese photographer, Mika Ninagawa, who takes looks of photos about nature and incorporates bright colors, inspired me. She also had a film that was a bit helter-skelter and dark, so I was combining things that were really girly with dark contrasts; it was about balancing contrasts.

How do you combine comfort and style in your designs?
Sky-high stilettos are not really ever comfortable, so it’s a bit of a challenge for any designer to make a mid-high platform look just as sexy as a stiletto.

Do you live in heels or can we catch you in flats?
I would be lying if I said I lived in heels. I always keep them in my bag, though.

Do you have a favorite shoe in your collection?
A pair with black and white butterflies on them. I love butterfly shoes!

What can we look forward to from your next collection?
It was inspired by a Beverly Hills, like a mean girl and mixed with a modern fairytale. Expect to see princesses with a lot of attitude.
