Day 1: September 24, 2018
Dior´s show at the Paris Longchamp Racecourse opened Paris Fashion Week S/S 2019 with guests like Blake Lively, Olivia Palermo, Shailene Woodley and instagirl Chiara Ferragni. The show crossed off every must-have of a mega-show list: a white petal shower, dancers choreographed by Sharon Eyal, and the greatest collection by Maria Grazia Churi. Languid dresses were, without a doubt, the protagonists in a collection that included the trending colors of the season: military green, blue, and pale pink. Something is clear: romanticism is always present in Dior.
Simon Porte Jacquemus´ collection, “La Riviera,“ was inspired by a dream from when he was a little boy of an unapproachable yet simple woman strutting Italian beaches in a straw bag and an evening dress, captured here in mini dresses, extra-large straw bags and hats and beach-like skirts in colourful motifs. Surrounded by frescoes and the beautiful gardens of the Italian Embassy, the color-struck clothes and the detailed heels made it feel like Jacquemus´ dream came true, especially in my favorite outfit composed of a white mini dress with a matching mini bag. As I sat front-row next to Charlotte Chesnais, the jewelry designer, I could spot influencers dressed in the brand’s woollen dresses like Chiara Ferragni, Emily Ratajkowski (for whom photographers went crazy) and Jeanne Damas. Besides, the show counted on big names of the fashion industry like Caroline de Maigret, Derek Blasberg, Carine Roitfeld, Emmanuelle Alt, and the Vogue Paris team.
Gucci´s show at Le Palace theatre was a perfect ending to day one of Paris Fashion Week, were the legendary singer Jane Birkin opened the event by singing “Baby Alone in Babylone.“ With the extraordinary designer Alessandro Michele as the creative director of the brand, we were able to see flamboyant looks with sequins and frills. Celebrities like Faye Dunaway, Jorja Smith, Agnes Varda and Soko would not miss the show, and took over the social network profiles of the brand to let us peek into the backstage of the event. Gucci´s show was one that went beyond ordinary for Paris and gave people a lot to talk about.
