Sally LaPointe Spring 2015

Less, is more as they say. “Inspired by the idea of spring cleaning: This collection is about streamlining and stripping away. The joy of less, creating confidence and certainty,” read Sally LaPointe’s show notes this season. No doubt, most designers these days might be looking for a way of “streamlining” and “stripping away” with all of the very fast, continuous pressures in the fashion business today. The result chez LaPointe? Very cool, mostly easy to wear pieces accented by silver statement making wide belts that cinched the models’ waists.

Case in point: A peachy blush techno jersey “muscle tee” dress, which we would describe as a riff on a rolled up ’80s T-shirt look, felt sexy, easy, and stylish like you could throw it on and look good without a bit of effort. The long ruffled skirts that revealed a bit of thigh were topped off with monochrome black or white techno jersey and chiffon tops, that proved to be a statement making look without having to try to hard. There were plenty of great pieces for the edgy, slightly goth Sally LaPointe woman, like a black leather moto jacket, with the sleeves left unzipped to the elbow for a kimono-sleeve effect. But aside from the styling, which so perfectly defined LaPointe’s vision of her woman (right down to the purple and orange highlighted hair), you got the feeling that even an uptown girl might like these dresses and skirts, perhaps with some heels and an updo instead of croc pointy loafers and messy undone tresses.
