Rihanna Defends the Writer of Her Recent Vogue Profile (WWD)
Rihanna covers the November issue of Vogue, and while the interview had some interesting tidbits about her possible upcoming album and other ventures, one aspect that went viral had nothing to do with the star at all. At the beginning of the essay, writer Abby Aguirre outlined that due to the interview being moved up by a day and a half, she didn’t have time to prepare specific questions and decided to “wing” the interview. Online, critics claimed that she was unprepared and unprofessional. Now, Rihanna herself is weighing in. “That’s gangster,” she told WWD. “To get a call the day before being like, ‘Hey, Rihanna’s in L.A., you wanna do this?’ And show up on the dime and write an incredible article that I’m really proud of and enjoyed reading? She’s badass for that.”

Dennis Freedman Joins Surface Media
Surface Media has named Dennis Freedman its new consulting creative director, effective immediately. “Dennis’ groundbreaking creativity and influence in the visual world is legendary and I am excited to be collaborating with him again in bringing Surface‘s brand and platforms to a new level of performance,” said Diane Solway, EIC of Surface. “Design is his passion and he will be instrumental as we expand our communities and dynamically connect our audiences with the innovators featured across our platforms.”

In his new role, Freedman will work with Solway to reimagine and expand the publication’s reach in the worlds of design, art, architecture, fashion, and travel, as well as help shape its magazine, digital platforms, live experiences, and partnerships. Freedman was the founding creative director of W Magazine, where he initially worked with Solway. He was most recently creative director of Barneys New York.

Tamara Mellon to Release Boots In Different Calf Sizes
Tamara Mellon is making one of her best-selling boots more size-inclusive. After fans complained that the Icon boots didn’t fit their calves, Mellon decided to take action. “We reached out to learn more, and began designing a new Icon boot that would work for more women,” she explained on Instagram. After working out some problems with the brand’s Italian manufacturers, you can now buy the Icon boots in small, medium, and large calf sizes, no matter what your shoe size is.

Authentic Brands Group Bids $264 Million to Buy Barneys (New York Times)
Investors are officially bidding on Barneys New York, which declared bankruptcy in August. Authentic Brands Group has pitched $264 million. If it wins, it would license the Barneys name to Hudson’s Bay Company (owner of Saks Fifth Avenue) and could potentially shutter all seven Barneys locations. But A.B.G. has some competition: a “consortium of New York investors” led by KITH co-founder Sam Ben-Avraham. Their plan would include keeping “at least two” Barneys locations open. A bankruptcy judge will make the final call on October 24.


Miranda Kerr Has Given Birth (Instagram)
Miranda Kerr took to Instagram to announce the birth of her third child, Myles. “We are overjoyed at the arrival of Myles and so appreciate everyone’s kind words and wishes during this special time,” she wrote. “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome our beautiful son into our family.”
