Rihanna just made Monday a bit more manageable. Today she dropped a video showcasing her first collection for Fenty, and revealed that the pieces will be available to purchase next week. “Women are forces of this earth,” she explained. “We are multifaceted, complex, vulnerable yet bulletproof, and Fenty speaks to all of our intricacies. Some days I want to be submissive, many days I’m completely in charge and most days I feel like being both….so it was imperative that we created a line versatile enough to embrace and celebrate us in that way. The collections are easily worn together and meant to be staples in our wardrobe. I’m just hyped to see people in my clothes, man.”
Taking a modern approach to fashion, Fenty will not be part of the traditional fashion calendar, nor will it hold runway shows. Instead, the line will be released in a see-now-wear-now format. There will be a series of drops featuring core items as well as special, limited-edition pieces. Additionally it will have a digital flagship which will be supported by “ephemeral” — or pop-up — boutiques.
Rihanna also personally modeled the collection in this week’s issue of T Magazine. She revealed that she sees Fenty as a “hub” filled with young and emerging designers. That being said, she is still the driving creative force behind the line. “I use myself as the muse,” she said. “It’s sweatpants with pearls, or a masculine denim jacket with a corset. I feel like we live in a world where people are embracing every bit of who they are.”
Fenty will debut at a Paris pop-up shop on May 24, and globally online May 29.
