The Return of Gemma Ward Continues

Gemma Ward

Perhaps the buzziest moment of recent fashion month was our old pal Gemma Ward walking in the Prada show after an extended break from, well, everywhere. Turns out, it wasn’t a fluke. Ward appears on the cover of Sunday Style Australia‘s October issue, declaring, ‘I’ve learnt to be a fighter!” The Australian glossy, available in the Herald Sun and The Sunday Telegraph, features a shoot by Beau Grealy and styling by Christine Centenera, with an in-depth interview with the Aussie mod inside. Ward tells writer and editor Clare Press that we’ll be seeing more of her in the future, saying, “I feel I can embody myself now…I feel comfortable in my myself.” The feature takes a look at her rise to fame with comparisons to Kate Moss and her break from the industry (“I wanted time, to find my story, my…power.”) which resulted in falling in love with model-turned-photographer David Letts and having her first child. Two off-limit topics: no questions about former boyfriend Heath Ledger, or rehashing those stories about her weight gain. So, what’s next? Soon she’ll be appearing in a campaign for Australian brand Country Road with her 11-month-old daughter Naia making her modeling debut. “Naia’s been in the papers already, without me sending in photos of her,” she says. “I try not to struggle with it – there’s no point getting angry.”
