Resort 2015: Giorgio Armani

Resort 2015: Giorgio Armani

Chez Armani, the resort collection this season was all about neutrals, whites, very subtle Armani blues (so pale they were, in fact, almost white,) silver, and a touch of camel and gold in ’80s silhouettes. Taking center stage were wide high-waisted pleated shorts that also came partially as skirts and looked not unlike culottes cut above the knee. A sophisticated white suit with bootcut pants and a tailored jacket with cropped kimono-style sleeves was the height of chic, while a luxurious fully chocolate croc suit jacket with ultra-short matching shorts had some youthful edge.

Other looks that were presented as casual could be dressed up by night, like a very pale blue jacket with a cascading drape in the back worn with slim matching crop pants, paired with matching sneakers. But the long pleated shorts were the focus of the collection, paired with everything from a leather blazer and an embellished sleeveless blouse to sweaters and silk tops. Leave it to a designer that absolutely owned the ’80s runways to be able to reinvent a look that had since been relegated to Midwestern mom fare, making those shorts look cool and fresh again. And what’s not to love about the toned-down, slicked-back hair and smoky-eyed makeup, that evoked a subtle refresh on Robert Palmer‘s backup girls for his iconic “Simply Irresistible” music video? Irresistible indeed!
