(MONACO) Christian Dior
The race is on! Raf Simons debuted his Resort 2014 collection on a rainy day in Monaco on Saturday. The location was fitting not only because of Monsieur Dior’s long relationship with Monaco maven Princess Kelly, but also due to Simons’ own relationship with the country’s current fashion plate, Princess Charlene. What’s more? The collection was about the speed of life, and involved the debut of a series of zig zag patterns and asymmetrical hemlines to highlight the theme. How apropos of a Principality with a history steeped in the raceways!
Standard Dior themes like florals, coat dresses, flowing feminine dresses, and sculpted shouldered suits were present throughout the collection. And colors came in a mix of bright colors like cobalt blue, cherry red, and lemon yellow with metallic pastels like sea green, pale pink, and light lavender also getting play. The collection had that demure and sophisticated Dior air with stunning coat dresses such a grey-ish blue (almost white) number with a ruffled skirt with laced detail on the sides. The lace theme ran throughout, as did zippers, which amplified the theme of life in the fast lane. To wit: a duo of rounded short sleeve, below-the-knee dresses that zipped from top to bottom down the front.
Meanwhile, there was plenty of racy sex appeal happening with peek-a-boo moments like a pair of navy wide leg pants paired with a white mid-riff crop top, the latter of which was adorned with an embroidered zig zag pattern in fuschia, canary yellow, baby blue and midnight navy. Sheer lace shift dresses revealed high-waisted hot pants (or, shall we say, panties?) and bandeau bras. Also, some stunning silk A-line ruffled dresses in bubblegum pink and a frothy pastel green were worn unzipped to the waist to reveal the silk undergarments beneath. Va-va-va-vroom!
