Ralph Lauren Fall 2015

Perched front row at Ralph Lauren yesterday was New York City’s First Lady Chirlane McCray, who was escorted into the show by the CFDA’s Steven Kolb. In a press statement sent out late Thursday evening first deputy press secretary Marti Adams said, “The Mayor and First Lady believe that success and opportunity should be the result of hard work – not where someone was born or how much money they have, and as the son of immigrants, Bronx native and self-made fashion icon, Mr. Lauren’s personal story embodies that spirit.”
There’s no doubt Ralph Lauren embodies the American dream, and this season his collection was thoroughly devoted to classic Ralph and the American west. Every single one of these looks would be at home in Aspen or Sundance, and they will likely find a home there on any number of its tony seasonal residents. There were pieces like a slouchy muted robe coat with a faux fur collar (all the fur in the show was made from shearling and not from animals as the show notes indicated) complete with a low-slung leather horn belt and a western-style fedora. There were long knit sweaters, flannel pants and dresses, suedes, and even a fully leather three-piece suit. One of the most divine looks  was a floor-length long sleeved cream lace dress worn with a fedora that just screamed Ralph Lauren, ditto the suspendered suit skirt look. He’s still got it.
