Philipp Plein Fall/Winter 2017

by The Daily Front Row

Always a master of spectacle, Philipp Plein’s Fall/Winter 2017 NYFW debut was far from a letdown. His welcome to America was a true tribute to the good ol’ USA. Elvis impersonators and models dressed as Lady Liberty greeted guests—including Madonna, Kylie Jenner, Tiffany Trump, and Fat Joe—as they entered the New York Public Library. We found Fern Mallis navigating her way through the mob scene outside. Her thoughts on the Americana-themed welcome? “It’s very clever. He clearly spent a lot of money. Now I have to figure out how to get inside.” The show began an hour later and opened with Nas’ “If I Ruled the World” blaring through the speakers before indie band The Kills carried on with a live performance. And the collection: rhinestone, fur, denim, thigh-high boots, booty shorts, leather, “Neighborhood King” emblazoned across jackets, and more. Eighty looks later, and the designer took his bow. Welcome to New York!
