Oscar de la Renta Retrospective To Debut In San Francisco

by Alexandra Ilyashov

The first big posthumous retrospective of Oscar de la Renta’s iconic, impressive work is opening at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Slated to run through May 30, the exhibit will showcase over 100 designs by de la Renta, curated by André Leon Talley, and is being put together in tandem with the Oscar de la Renta maison, according to WWD. The exhibit encompasses over 50 years of Mr. de la Renta’s work. Last month, Talley curated an exhibit of the late designer’s work (albeit on a much more petite scale) at the SCAD’s Museum of Art in Savannah, Georgia. The exhibit, “Oscar de la Renta: His Legendary World of Style,” encompassed 50 frocks, some donated by celebs like Oprah, Taylor Swift, and Sarah Jessica Parker. In 2014, prior to the designer’s late October passing, an exhibit of the designer’s work ran from July to October at Southern Methodist University‘s George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas. Back in 2013, the Clinton Foundation compiled an exhibit, “Oscar de la Renta: American Icon”, featuring 30 pieces by the designer.
