Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing to Design Costumes for Paris Opera Ballet

by Sydney Sadick

Balmain’s new collaboration is taking it to the theater. Creative director Olivier Rousteing will design costumes for the Paris Opera’s Renaissance, a new creation from choreographer and dancer Sébastien Bertaud. Costumes will feature silver and gold embellishments, and rhinestones and pearls embroidered on bodysuits, tights, and draped skirts, elements that speak true to Rousteing’s aesthetic. You’ll also find dancers performing in spencer coats, fringe skirts, and cardigans. “This is gonna be epic. Can’t wait for you to see this incredible French ballet. Proud to be a part of the French heritage. Modernity meets classical, couture meets ballet,” Rousteing said in a caption on Instagram. “With the world of the @operadeparis, we are opening up a new sector and a new era for Balmain. It’s a really nice validation of my style and a way of showing you can remain international even while being very Parisian,” he added on Balmain’s Instagram.

Renaissance will run at the Opera Garnier from June 13 to June 19.
