Lafayette 148 Fêtes its New Boutique & Photography Exhibit With Cocktails
Contemporary women’s brand Lafayette 148 has a devastatingly chic new location at 956 Madison Avenue. Adding to the allure of the space, the boutique is home to a new photography exhibit by Patrick McMullan, titled Glamour, Grit & Grace: Portraits of Iconic New York Women. McMullan himself was in attendance, as were Kelly Rutherford, Hannah Bronfman, Sophie Elgort, and Fern Mallis, among others.

The show, which will be on view through January 1, 2020, features a curation of black and white photographs showcasing trailblazing New York women captured by McMullan over his more than 30-year career, all selected from his vast archives. It’s a who’s who of glamorous New Yorkers, including the likes of Glenn Close, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Debbie Harry, Iman, Grace Jones, Cyndi Lauper, Fran Lebowitz, Liza Minnelli, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rosie Perez, Christy Turlington, and Michelle Williams, among others, stretching from the 1980s to today.

“I’ve made it my work documenting the city, it’s people and it’s celebrations,” says McMullan. “It’s a genuine thrill going back through the archives, seeing my work of these images of exciting, powerful and glamorous women in NYC. Most good photographs are a matter of trust and engagement that we had with each other. It’s always great to look back at the people and places that I have been and see the women that I have met and known.”

But Lafayette 148 isn’t just putting up these images as decoration — it’s actually a charitable venture. All of the photographs are being auctioned off to benefit Bring Change to Mind, a non-profit devoted to ending the stigma around mental illness, founded by Glenn Close. From December 3rd to the 17th, Charitybuzz will auction the exhibition’s portraits, with 100% of proceeds benefitting Bring Change to Mind.

“This evening brings together so much of what we stand for — we’re a New York brand, of course, but we’re also led by women for women,” says Liz Fraser, president of Lafayette 148. “These women capture the New York spirit we celebrate — resilience, strength, confidence and beauty. And who could be more New York than Patrick McMullan? He’s been synonymous with this city for more than three decades. So, it’s a wonderful way to celebrate our new Madison store and this exciting next chapter in our New York journey.”

For one night only, the best chefs in the country from LA and NYC to Detroit and Nashville came together to showcase their award-winning restaurants, each of which prepared one or more signature dishes to share with guests. Standouts included the pork sandwich from Konbi in Los Angeles, cold noodles from Khao Noodle Shop in Dallas, vegan lemon and pistachio cake with poached quince from Ochre Bakery in Detroit, and a divine little pork patty (again, from Khao Noodle Shop in Dallas), the line for which seemed to snake on for miles. There was also a very popular BBQ brisket taco courtesy of Matt’s BBQ Tacos in Portland, but, personally, I just can’t get behind a flour tortilla taco.

The event was open to the public and included open bars for wine and cocktails, games, and additional treats and eats including oysters on the half shell with caviar in place on mignonette (genius!), and some absolutely divine little cups of vanilla gelato drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt. I had 5 of those. Don’t judge! They were very small and everyone knows ice cream goes into a different stomach.

Elizabeth Olsen hosted a flight-themed party in New York City to celebrate the relaunch of the relaunch of Delta SkyMiles American Express card and showcase features and benefits card members will receive with the newly relaunched cards, starting in January 2020. The event featured specialty fall cocktails by Linden Pride, founder/principal of Dante New York City — named the World’s Best Bar at Tales of the Cocktail this year — and Atlanta-based drinking consultant and James Beard advisor, Tiffanie Barriere. Delicious bites were provided by Gabriel and Gina Stulman of Happy Cooking Hospitality, while DJs Coco & Breezy performed a special set.
