Elle magazine, E!, and IMG promised to celebrate “supermodels and super trends” for their joint New York Fashion Week kick off party, and boy did they deliver! Last night models, celebrities — including Nicki Minaj — and influencers gathered at The Pool at the Seagram building to toast the city’s upcoming shows.

Being the first party of the week, there was a special kind of excitement in the air. Of course, that could have been because some attendees, like co-hostess Nina García, were still riding high off the excitement from Tom Ford’s show. “Oh my god, it was sexy,” she gushed. “It was sexy, it was cool, and it’s all about the jacket. It was gorgeous.”

Like any good fashion fête, champagne was offered upon arrival and the drinks were flowing.  “I guess when we’re trying to be skinny I’m a vodka soda with lime juice kind of gal,” Model Squad star Caroline Lowe joked when asked what her go-to beverage was. “Honestly, I’d rather drink a beer, but that doesn’t photograph well, so I’ll be cute with my vodka/soda/lime. But when I get home, I’m drinking beer!”

While many simply cited rosé as their drink of choice, some had more specific orders. “I do solid Kettle soda with three lemons,” said Morgan Stewart, the host of E!’s Daily Pop. “One is too little, two is not enough. Three is perfect.” Noted.

Guests took the “super chic” dress code very seriously, although each had their own interpretation of what that meant. Minaj stunned in an Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh ensemble, while singer Lizzo (who also performed at Soho House last night) arrived in her stage ensemble, and offered some cheeky advice on beating the heat with fashion. “You have to be ok with nudity,” she mused. “Honestly, at the end of the day when you’re comfortable with yourself and with your body, can’t nobody tell you shit. That’s the most fashionable thing you can own.”

Meanwhile, marrieds Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross revealed their own sartorial problem: coordinating their outfits as a couple. “She takes all my stuff!” Exclaimed Ross. Simpson blamed her borrowing on her husband having style too good to pass up, leaving him to agree, “I have great pieces!” It appears Simpson’s fashion theft is forgiven.
