Nicole Miller Brings Her Pre-Fall Collection to a Tattoo Parlor

by Kristen Heinzinger

Nicole Miller is playing up her edge factor. Yesterday, the designer invited editors to check out her Pre-Fall collection at Daredevil Tattoo in NYC, where she was also shooting her lookbook, and offered everyone the chance to get inked or pierced. It was a fitting venue for the range of dresses, tops, accessories, and shoes—they were all inspired by St. Mark’s Place circa 1990. Think: safety-pins, leather, and NYC-inspired prints galore.

“We viewed a lot of spaces, when the idea hit us to show in a tattoo parlor, but I loved Daredevil right away,” Miller told us. “The space fits so well, with its history and images all over the walls, and the layout gave us a lot of options for shooting too. Michelle, the owner, was so helpful with everything, and also ended up being a talented artist when she tattooed many of our editors!”

Plenty of editors who came by committed to getting tatted–“We were shocked how many people went for the tattoo or piercing offer! It was great to see people so excited about the whole event,” she said. Miller passed on a tattoo (she has two already), opting for a second ear piercing instead. And for commitment-phobes, the shop’s tattoo artists were offering temporary tattoos. We stuck with the latter!

“Everyone responded really well to our prints and all of the collection,” she added, “so I think having it there in the tattoo shop made it more authentic and made sense with our inspiration.”
