Naomi Campbell Walks Versace’s Spring 2017 Show

by Paige Reddinger

Supermodels on parade! There was Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, Doutzen Kroes, Adriana Lima, Irina Shayk, Edie Campbell, Jourdan Dunn, Mariacarla Boscono, and Romee Strijd, to name just a few, but it was Naomi Campbell who remained the ultimate show-stopper. Campbell has been a longtime friend of Donatella Versace and has, of course, walked the Versace runway more times that one can count. But at a time when some of her fellow supermodels of the ’80s and ’90s are watching their children take the biz by storm, like Cindy Crawford’s daughter Kaia Gerber, Campbell looks every bit as fierce as her early modeling days. That walk, that charisma, and that ‘tude never get old, and incredibly, the physical Naomi Campbell never does either. It’s hard to outshine a Gigi and a Bella these days, but when it’s Naomi, it’s Naomi.

As for the collection, it was a cool mix of sporty streetwear like drawstring anoraks, Versace logo’ed crop-tops, and neoprene leggings. The anorak looks were most desirable in all leather, like the almost trench-esque ankle grazing khaki number. And if anyone can make Teva-inspired platforms look desirable, it’s Donatella. There were plenty of the sexy, barely-there mini dresses that the brand is known for, like one particularly haute sequin version worn by Anna Ewers. A drawstring emerald green skirt and top with an extra high slit (that could probably go even higher) also caught the eye. Post-show, Donatella took a bow in all black, which highlighted the short lob she’s been rocking—the sportier vibe is looking as good on her as it does on the runway.
