The Nail Art at Libertine Was Pure WTF

by Charles Manning

“I am a maximalist,” Libertine’s Johnson Hartig told Vogue moments before his  fall 2018 show. “I am a maximalist in personality. I am a maximalist emotionally . . . it’s just what I am.”

He’s also a maximalist when it comes to nail art. Remember two year ago when Libertine made fur nails a thing? Of course you do. It’s not the kind of thing one forgets.

This season, Hartig’s maximalist manicure tendencies manifested themselves in the form of four-foot fringe, which swung from the models’ nail beds and dragged along the ground as they made their ways joyfully down the runway.

There was ombré fringe.

And fringe with friends.

There was grey fringe.

There was also some shorty fringe.

And some medium fringe, which was almost tame compared to the floor-skimmers.

But, really, it was all about that XL super-fringe. Joy in manicure form. Hands down.
