Dior Kicks Off Resort Season With a Lavish Show in Marrakech
Dior traveled to Morocco for its 2020 Resort show, yesterday. The collection drew heavily on Dior’s archives — specifically Yves Saint Laurent’s fascination with morocco during his time at the house, and Marc Bohan’s prints and silhouettes —while also featuring a number of collaborations. Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri wanted the collection to be a “world map.” Her original inspiration was wax print fabric and Chiuri collaborated with the Uniwax factory and studio (located on the Ivory Coast) to reinterpret Dior codes by integrating them into the weave of the fabric.

Other collaborators on the collection include designer Pathé’O who created a shirt for the collection that pays tribute to Nelson Mandela. Meanwhile designer Grace Wales Bonner, and artist Mickalene Thomas collaborated on version’s of Dior’s iconic New Look suit. Finally milliner Stephen Jones worked with designers Martine Henry and Daniella Osemadewa on turbans and headpieces.
