Miu Miu Debuts New Film "Spark And Light" At The Diamond Horseshoe

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) Last eve, Miu Miu debuted the latest short film from their “Women’s Tales” series at The Diamond Horseshoe, the new ’40s era nightclub by Simon Hammerstein and Randy Weiner in New York City’s theater district beneath the Paramount Hotel. The film is the seventh in a series of films by the brand that celebrates female directors. Spark and Light, directed by So Yong Kim depicts Riley Keough in a surreal film about family dynamics that vacillates between dreams and reality, past and present to study ideas on childhood, adulthood, and immortality.

The film’s characters are dressed in Miu Miu’s Spring 2014 collection and the walls of the house where Elizabeth (played by Keough) seeks refuge are lined with the same birds, cats, and faces in neo-Chinoiserie as the Spring collection. According to Kim in a press statement the prints become, “a recurring symbol of safety and love.” The other films from Miu Miu’s Women’s Tales are: The Powder Room, directed by Zoe Cassavetes; Muta, directed by Lucrecia Martel; The Woman Dress, directed by Giada Colagrande; It’s Getting Late, directed by Massy Tadjedin; The Door, directed by Ava DuVernay; and Le Donne Della Vucciria, directed by Hiam Abbass. Kim’s previous films include, For Ellen, Treeless Mountain, and In Between Days, which won a Special Jury Prize at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival.

Tout le monde of the fashion world came out to see the film including Delfina Delettrez Fendi, Princess Deena Al-Juhani Abdulaziz, Natalie Joos, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Michelle Harper, Hanneli Mustaparta, Mia Moretti, Jessica Joffe, Vinoodh Matadin and Inez Van Lamsweerde, Crystal Renn, Linda Tol, and Solange Knowles, to name a few. Giovanna Battaglia and Anna Dello Russo, showed up for the bash dressed in nearly identical Prada Spring 2014 looks. Joining Rily Keough, fellow actresses Hailee Steinfeld and Anna Kendrick showed up, also clad in Spring 2014 Miu Miu duds. The surprise guest of the evening? The Real Housewives of Atlanta guest star Miss Lawrence in a pair of sky high Charlotte Olympia boots. So how did he end up at the chicest fashion party of the week? “I was invited by the legendary Bevy Smith. I call her ‘Mevy’, which is ‘mother’ and ‘Bevy’ mixed,” said Lawrence. “I’m still being introduced to the big fashion world. I’m perfecting my knowledge and meeting all of the fashionistas and the people that make the fashion world go round.” And there was certainly no better place that evening to do it.
