Michael Kors Honors Neil Patrick Harris

by Eddie Roche

“This guy is the greatest! Just the greatest!” a newly gray-haired Bette Midler said of Michael Kors at Thursday’s 2015 Golden Heart Awards at Spring Studios. “Michael wants everyone who needs a meal to have one. In fact, now that fashion week is over he’s even even stopped flapping sandwiches out of the hands of his models. I’ve also heard he offered Anna Wintour a one and half calorie Tic Tac.” Now in it’s eighth year, the dinner (a delicious harvest hen from Canard was on the menu), is a fundraiser for God’s Love We Deliver, which raised an impressive $2.5 million this year. The organization is the New York metropolitan area’s leading provider of meals for people living with severe illnesses, and earlier this year they opened a new facility, The Michael Kors Building, after a multimillion dollar donation from the designer and brand.

This year’s event honored Michael Sennott with The Golden Heart Award for Outstanding Volunteerism and The Michael Kors Award for Outstanding Community Service to Neil Patrick Harris who was introduced by Kors. “It’s fair to say that when you hear the name Neil Patrick Harris, you think of a jack of all trades. As an entertainer, this guy does it all. He acts, he sings, he dances. On television he’s played everything from our favorite teenage doctor to an eccentric womanizer,” Kors told a crowd including Kate Hudson, Emily Blunt, Diane Kruger, Toni Garrn, Devon Windsor, Jessica Hart, Alex Sharp, Maria Borges, Vanessa Moody, Cameron Russell, and Vanessa Axente. “What I love about God’s Love We Deliver and Neil is their spirit,” Kors continued. “They rally people to join forces and they use their talents to make a positive impact, so it seems very fitting that we are honoring someone tonight who is not only a man of many hats in his industry, but whose compassion for those in need really spans the spectrum from the hungry to those with AIDS to children living in poverty. He’s a guy that cares about all of them.” He would know.
