MCM’s Latest Collaboration to Benefit Homeless Dogs

by Taylor Harris

MCM enlisted street artist Eddie Kang for its latest limited-edition capsule collection, aptly titled MCM x Eddie Kang.

The mashup integrate’s the Korean artist’s signature “animamix” motif into the brand’s signature logo-laded leathers, superimposing charming animal caricatures on their carryalls, wristlets, shoppers and wallets. The collection — out today — prices go from $175 for a card case, up to $750 for an oversized, reversible tote.

“He was my family pet and I made him into a character,” Kang said over the phone, describing Loveless, his real-life childhood pup, immortalized in his art. Loveless makes several appearances in the capsule. “He’s sort of become my icon, my mascot.”

Loveless was abused before being introduced to Kang’s family. “We found him on a public bus and took him home. This was right after I graduated college and he had been very badly abused when he came to us.”

The capsule’s tagline “Save the Loveless,” is a social message close to Kang’s heart. “I’m all about animal rights,” he said, hoping to promote the practice of ‘Adopt Don’t Shop’. “That philosophy is very important to me. We should be able to rescue as many street dogs as possible, and as many street cats as possible. That’s where my passion is, where my focus is.” Several MCM brand loyalists and animal lovers have already posted their support of the cause in slogan tees created by Kang.

The whimsical capsule launches today with a party at Vanderpump Dogs in Los Angeles with ten percent of the proceeds from the event going to Vanderpump Dogs.
