Marques Almeida Fall 2017

by Paige Reddinger

The eye-popping graphics in Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida’s collection this season were inspired by Malian photographer Malick Sidibé’s black-and-white images of ’60s culture in Bamako, Mali. The photographs featured stylish Malians in mostly intricate prints set against striped or checked backdrops. Sidibé passed away in April of last year. Marques ‘ Almeida’s interpretation of the famous black-and-white photography was infused with pops of color like a velvety pink flamingo ruffled skirt, an oversized red and black striped jacket, or oversized canary yellow dresses and coats. The brand’s street-style savvy clientele will be more than pleased with a full collection of pieces made for the camera.
