Marchesa Fall/Winter 2017

by The Daily Front Row

Awards season is in full swing, and with the Oscars coming up next Sunday, everyone at the Marchesa show couldn’t help but devour the latest offerings for Fall 2017. Color was the real story story here, with co-designers Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman turning an eye toward Imperial China for inspiration. The gowns finished with intricate multicolor embroideries were especially swoon-worthy. There was also an abundance of embellishments, including tulle flowers, velvet bows, and feather finishes—plenty of options for the woman looking to make a statement on the red carpet. “We’ve always loved dressing people for the red carpet,” Chapman told us before the show. “We love dressing all sorts of women.” Craig added, “There’s nothing quite as good as that moment a woman tries on one of our dresses and you just know, this is the one.”

These designers have always had a knack for red carpet beauties, but there was another sort of statement to be made that caught our eye. The co-designers each wore a pink Planned Parenthood pin over their hearts. Said Craig, “We are women, we make decisions about our own bodies, and nobody else should be able to do that for us.” Now there’s a statement that appears to be trending this season.
