Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2018

by The Daily Front Row

Marc Jacobs sent out a loud and vibrant collection this season, but like last season’s Hip-Hop ode, there was no music to set the tune of the vibe. The show was entitled “Somewhere” and the show notes stated, “During the last few months while friends vacationed, we took a holiday in our heads and went somewhere—twisting fantasy into reality through exaggerated, decadent, and exotic sportswear silhouettes.” No doubt Jacobs has needed a little escapism. The designer has been plagued by rumors that he is leaving his eponymous label, which he has steadfastly denied.

This season’s collection was said to be a reimagining of seasons past “somewhere beyond the urban landscape of New York City”. He played with the oversized jacket silhouettes from Fall 2016, this time in an orange moto jacket or pantsuit and a smattering of parkas with prints as big and statement making as their silhouettes. The latter along with a few jumpsuits could have been mistaken for skiwear. There were plenty of Jacobs’ now signature sequin gowns, the most stellar version of which was a teal belted floor-length number on Jamie Bochert. Plus, there were psychedelic ’70s print (almost Pucci-esque) caftan dresses, jumpsuits, and tunics. We assume the editorial requests are already being placed along with a rush for those Stephen Jones‘ turbans. Jacobs woman was dreaming about traveling the globe and frankly my dears, not giving a damn. Jacobs was creating his own type of noise and it was fabulously fun!
