On Sunday at the Fashion Los Angeles Awards Katie Grand and Derek Blasberg were awarded Creatives of the Year. The duo were introduced by Courtney Love, who treated the audience to the story of how she and Grand first met: on a photoshoot in which Grand convinced Love to get naked.
“Katie had these gorgeous pieces from Galliano Dior for me, but they were all sample size,” she said. “So we ditched clothing and I stripped off for the shoot. These images turned out to be amazing I-Don’t-Ever-Need-to-Get-Naked-Again pictures. Frankly, I don’t have to show my boobs because Katie did such a good job with them…. Katie has a knack for making wonderfully superb images, as well as making naked things appear beautifully disheveled.”
The love (as it were) wasn’t lost on Grand, who surprised everyone with her acceptance speech by revealing that her magazine, LOVE, got its name from the rockstar. “I really want to thank Courtney because we named LOVE Magazine after her,” Grand explained. “It was an old cover and we put her image up and we put “LOVE” across the top and we were like, “We’ve got to call it LOVE”. So thank you Courtney for doing this!”
Grand and Blasberg were honored for their work on #MovingLove, the video magazine that can be found on YouTube. #MovingLove has been incredibly popular, racking up millions of views across 50 videos. Naturally, Courtney Love was one of their first subjects.
