W Magazine Celebrates Jeff Koons x Louis Vuitton Collab and Pop-Up Shop

by Sydney Sadick

Jeff Koons x Louis Vuitton, the collaboration that’s been getting lots of buzz in the art and fashion worlds, has been brought to life in NYC. Louis Vuitton opened a pop-up location in the former DKNY space on the Upper East Side to exhibit the creations and is allowing customers to purchase them. The collection, which officially launched on April 28, features imagery from Koons’ Gazing Ball paintings, a series of large-scale hand-painted reproductions of masterpieces by da Vinci, Titian, Rubens, Fragonard, and Van Gogh, which have been transposed to iconic Louis Vuitton bags including the Speedy, the Keepall, and the Neverfull.

The store façade is adorned with the gold motif featuring the LVxJK monogram, and there are four show windows with double height LED screens glorifying the artists and their masterpieces. The store honors the original works by the Masters with enlarged prints and descriptions of the work written on freestanding angled panels. Between them are large mirrors and crates with the gold flower motif towering up to the second floor. Replicas of Jeff Koons’ signature rabbit sculpture sit atop the towering crates.

The fashion house hosted a cocktail party at the digs last week with Lanessa Elrod, president and CEO of Louis Vuitton Americas and W Magazine’s Stefano Tonchi. Other guests who celebrated the launch included Olympia Scarry, David Maupin, Rachel Lehman, Indre Rockefeller, Stacy Engman, Anya Ziourova, Pippa Cohen, Annelise Winter, and Alexander Vreeland.

Check out the pop-up at 655 Madison Avenue now through July 15.
