Fall is in the air! The cool-weather season’s overlapped with a slew of parties, from Aritzia’s SoHo store opening to this year’s WSJ Innovator Awards. Before reaching for our best sweaters and boots, we caught up with chic stars around town to hear their favorite fall traditions!
Alex Consani, model
“My favorite fall tradition is being locked up in a house with my best friends and my family. Wholesome sh-t, girl.”
Linda Evangelista, supermodel
“I love fall, because I love to cook, I love dishes, and I’m a hibernator—I love the holidays.”
Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, stylist
“My favorite fall tradition is watching Stepmoms, with Julia Roberts—the queen of fall!”
Alexis Bittar, designer
“I invite basically everyone from my past and present, a mix of artists and people I’ve worked with. My husband also invites people, his family, [and] my kids bring their friends. There’s 25 kids, and 200 people come into the house. It’s a spectrum. Iris [Apfel] passed away, but she was always there. And Amanda Lepore, Mel Ottenberg, to my kids’ friends from public school, to just everyone. There’s so many people there! It’s kind of crazy. It reminds me of old New York. I purposely bring everyone together.”
Juliana Canfield, actress
“All year round, I’m a big walker. But this time of year, when people—especially in my neighborhood in Brooklyn—start lighting fires, there’s that wood smoke smell in the air. That’s one of my favorite smells on the planet, so it’s nice to get a little of that.”
Dara Allen, stylist and fashion director, Interview magazine
“I loathe autumn! I prefer summer, and I prefer winter. I like extreme weather. It’s just not my color palette, warm colors.”
Lulu Tenney, model
“Pumpkin patches, [and] picking pumpkins.”
Matthew Cancel, founder, Cancel Communications
“My favorite autumn tradition is still getting outside to a pumpkin patch and walking around in the cold air. I went to one in Massachusetts this year! I was there for work at the perfect time, when the temperature dropped and the leaves started changing.”
Kayla Curtis-Evans, writer
“I grew up in the Northeast, so I’ve always loved going to an apple orchard when the leaves start to change and picking up some warm apple cider and apple cider donuts. Just the smell is so nostalgic!”
Anna LaPlaca, senior editor, WhoWhatWear
My favorite fall tradition revolves around Thanksgiving. My birthday is also usually on Thanksgiving or the day before or after, and my family has this very specific pumpkin chiffon pie recipe. It’s like a whipped pumpkin pie—it’s been in our family for generations! So, going over to try and make it again the day before Thanksgiving with my mom, my aunts, my grandma is always so fun.
Anastasia Gerrans, content creator
“Pulling my knits out of storage and reorganizing them, and then color-coordinating everything and just getting ready for the cozy weather right before it hits.”
