Lanvin Fall 2015

Alber Elbaz turned out a stunning collection that revisited his birthplace, Casablanca, Morocco. There was tassels, fringe, and shearling. Looks were styled a few different ways, including a Berber-inspired iteration, with layers upon layers of clothing and prints. To wit: a heavy fur coat was worn over striped pants with a fur neck warmer, a printed velvety tunic, and suede tasseled boots, while a thick shearling and leather coat was worn over a long printed skirt tied at the waist with huge drapery-esque tassels. Then there was the military element with chic high-waisted pants with a stripe tucked into riding boots or the long swinging coats with roped epaulets. Amid the collection’s ornateness, there were a few clean, sleek looks, like a white dress with black piping that followed the lines of the body down to two thigh-high slits.

As for the accessories? There is always an accessory du moment on a Lanvin runway, and this season the must-have is going to be the brimmed caps with large tassels that fell to one side of the face, and the embellished fedoras with only half a brim. It was an extraordinary showing from Elbaz, culminating with feathery flecks of sequined florals intricately spilling down the shoulders of a wool coat or a cape thrown over an embellished blouse worn with a medallion necklace with trio of hanging tassels. These are the kind of clothes fashion fantasies are made of.
