Lacoste Fall 2015

by Dena Silver

Cult-favorite Wes Anderson film The Royal Tenenbaums came to life on the runway yesterday via Felipe Oliviera Baptista’s latest Lacoste collection. No wonder, since the beloved flick was a key inspiration for Baptista this season. ‘ There was Richie Tenenbaum, in his usual khaki suit paired with a polo and a coordinating headband. Margot Tenenbaum’s go-to fur jacket was represented by a fuzzy camel overcoat. How could we miss Chas Tenenbaum’s ruby red tracksuit that he coordinated with his two sons? While French rap blasted through the speakers, front rowers including the likes of Caroline De Maigret and Joe Jonas nodded and bobbed their heads to both the tunes and the clothes. For the hommes, there were plenty of smart coats, from a tweedy number to a geometric trench, all topping brightly-hued sweatsuits. The girls donned tennis-apropos wears, including pleated skirts with bold arcs of green and blue, plus teeny little sweater dresses with a complicated wrap detail. While sporty, the collection exuded French glamour and nodded to the label’s past, with shirts emblazoned with “René Did It First.” After all, who does tennis chic better than Lacoste?
