Kristen Stewart Fronts V Magazine’s Free Spirit Issue

by Kristen Heinzinger

Va va va voom! Kristen Stewart looks utterly fierce on the cover of V106, the dedicated Free Spirit issue that spotlights the creators and visionaries who unapologetically push boundaries. For the cover coup, Stewart shows off a sleek blonde crop and wears head to toe Chanel–she is the Kaiser’s muse, after all—styled by Paul Cavaco and shot by Mario Testino. Inside, she gives the lowdown on her new role in tech thriller Personal Shopper, Hollywood life, and working with Karl Lagerfeld on those Chanel campaigns. Here’s a sneak peek of what to expect; read the full interview when the issue comes out March 9.

On Personal Shopper’s portrayal of technology…
“When you speak to someone on the phone, that is a decipherable, understandable exchange. But with text and social media, it’s essentially a dialogue with yourself and your interpretation of a shadow. It’s not invalid; it’s a new language.”

On the demands of Hollywood…
“I was in front of 500 cameras promoting my films, but not the one. Not the intimate one. Not the one that I really care about.”

On her relationship to fashion and Karl Lagerfeld…
“Karl has always, from the very beginning, made me feel like being myself was the right thing to do. And in [the fashion] world, that is a rarity. He’s a compulsive and obsessive artist and it’s contagious. And he’s kind. He is who he is for a reason. I feel so lucky to be in his space so often.”
