Kamil Misztal on the Impact of COVID-19 on Global Business

by DN News Desk

The world has not entirely freed itself from the clutches of Covid-19. However, it may not be wrong altogether to say that the post-Covid era has begun. As we enter this new phase in human evolution, it is prudent to sit down and take stock of this new world and reflect upon the impact of the recent events in our lives. Serial entrepreneur Kamil Misztal shares his thoughts on the new dynamics created by Covid-19, which has begun to govern the business world.

A turning point for small businesses
“The phrase ‘survival of the fittest’ comes to mind when you look at the motions of small and medium-sized businesses,” says Misztal. Having to deal with Covid-19 regulations, even neighborhood stores have come under pressure to swiftly adopt advanced technologies for tracking customers, transitioning to meet demands in logistics changes, working with reduced staff strength, and other demands created by the pandemic.

The exodus from the physical to the virtual
With the work-from-home culture getting well-cemented, many businesses do not need a physical space to conduct business. From interviews to shareholder meetings, everything now happens in the virtual space. This has impacted both the airline industry and the hospitality industry. “I don’t go out for meetings these days. All my meetings are on Zoom,” says Misztal.

The boom in the health sector
Having been summoned to tackle a pandemic that landed on us without warning, the healthcare sector had to work overtime during the pandemic. According to Misztal, from sanitizers to digital thermometers to face masks – sales of medical equipment and healthcare products have seen a steep rise.

The rise in home-delivery services
Many businesses had to quickly set up their home delivery services or had to sign up with service providers when people were asked to stay at home. This has accelerated the at-home service trend and redefined customer service standards. According to Misztal though the Covid-19 experience was tough, it has raised the bar in customer service. According to Misztal, change is the governing principle of all things in existence. ‘There is nothing in the world, including business models, that can escape change,’ He says. He believes that although these new trends forced upon us by Covid-19 are, sometimes, overwhelming, the overall impact has been a positive one. His positive outlook comes as a breath of fresh air amidst the paranoid claustrophobia caused by the pandemic.
