Jil Sander Leaves Her Namesake Brand For The Third Time

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) Jil Sander is bidding her namesake brand adieu for the third time. In February of 2012, Sander had returned to her label that she founded in Hamburg, Germany in 1968 after an eight-year absence. Her return to the label came after designer Raf Simons left the label to pursue his new helm as creative director at Christian Dior (fun fact: Simons was born the year that Sander founded the label). Sander left her brand for the first time in 2000 after she sold a 75 percent stake to Prada Group in 1999. She returned in May 2003, but left shortly thereafter for the second time.

The Spring 2014 collection marks her last work for the label, which is currently owned by Japan’s Onward Holdings. The Fall 2014 collection will be designed by the current in-house design team until a replacement is announced. The brand has announced that she is leaving for personal reasons.
