Jay Z And Barneys Still Set To Launch BNY SCC Collection Despite Racial Profiling Incidents

(NEW YORK) Barneys New York and Jay-Z plan to go ahead with the launch of the BNY SCC collection for the holidays despite highly-publicized racial profiling cases that have landed the high-end retailer in the hot seat recently. The new deal involves an increase in the portion of the proceeds from the collaboration that will go to charity: 100 percent of BNY SCC sales benefit the Shawn Carter Foundation, which helps underprivileged youth with educational opportunities. Initially, 25 percent of holiday item sales was set to go towards the rapper’s eponymous Foundation.

The retailer will also now be donating 10 percent of all retail sales both in store and online when the collection launches at Barneys on Wednesday. The pledge comes with a guarantee to raise at least $1 million. “I have agreed to move forward with the launch of BNY SCC collection under the condition that I have a leadership role and seat on a council specifically convened to deal with the issue of racial profiling,” said Jay-Z in a public statement. “I am in a unique position to use my voice to affect change to this disturbing issue. The easy position would have been to walk away and leave policy making to others hoping that someone addresses the problem. I will not leave the outcome to others. I will take this into my own hands with full power to recommend, review, and revise policies and guidelines moving forward. I am choosing to take this head on.”
