Jason Wu Resort 2015

Jason Wu

Save for a few skin-baring details, Jason Wu’s Resort line was a collection of clean and polished pieces that would be swell, chic office attire. And while the designs were devoid of Wu’s signature underlying sensual qualities, but that didn’t detract from the collection’s appeal. Wu turned toward industrial designer Dieter Rams for inspiration, focusing on clean lines and pastel colors. The selection of crisp separates, like a pair of white boot cut pants and a dove grey blazer had their own hint of sexiness, but in a powerful way. The same goes for a black pencil skirt that sits low on the hips and a ribbed polo with a zip-front detail. This collection is certainly for the working woman; one who avoids boring black pant suits like the plague. Rather, she opts for her own suiting style, like the pairing of a pale gray jacket with turnkey-like buttons and a simple A-line skirt or a sleeveless coatdress with a pale mink trim. The dresses were a sublime power play as well, in powdery hues of blue and pink, meticulously cut in a sculptural manner. Lacking frills or much adornment at all, the frocks do feature plenty of triangular cut-outs, either putting a swath of ribcage on show or showcasing a sinewy leg. Without feeling the least bit matronly or boring, this Resort showing is rife with a sense of simplicity and maturity that suits Wu quite nicely.
