Jacquemus Spring/Summer 2017

Out marched Les Santons de Provence chez Jacquemus. Santons are a type of figurine in France that either represent a certain cultural region or dress such as Provence or can sometimes refer to the figurines in a nativity scene. The santons in this collection were the: the Arlésienne, the grandfather, the cook, the shepherd, the woman with lavender, and the Bohemian according to show notes. It was a beautiful tribute to French culture and one of Simon Porte de Jacquemus‘ best collections yet. Here he exaggerated the traditional dress of the French santons by playing with his house’s codes, such a shirting. There were giant sleeves on blouses, which came in exaggerated proportions, tiered puffs, ruching or oversized lace trimmed collars. As usual it was a subversive play in proportions, including other elements like extra large grandfather trousers or an elaborate play on the traditional Arlésienne fichu, but in visiting traditional themes Jacquemus’ typically avant-garde leaning collections, looked more forward than ever.
