Jacquemus Spring 2015

Looking to acquire some sailing stripes? Look no further than the Spring offering from Simon Porte Jacquemus. The designer’s playful, fun collection was a delightfully refreshing way to start off the Parisian leg of Fashion Month. The designer transported the Jacquemus audience to the Sud de France via crisp white cotton interspersed with playful stripes in primary colors. While some pieces evoked a beach towel translated into a teeny trapeze dress, there were hints of bikinis cropped up, as did a circular motif that brought to mind beach balls. There was even a triangular off-the-shoulder frock that couldn’t have been a more obvious nod to a boat’s sail. While the whimsy was present, so was astute tailoring: a sculptural skirt offered architectural side detailing, while a white pinstriped top was finished off with bold cuffs. And then, there were playful motifs, like a cartoonish carrot and a cheery flower, which brought back the innocence of childhood summers. All these jubilant pieces were anchored by gleaming white Adidas kicks and tube socks. Nailing the playfully neat look isn’t easy to do, but Jacquemus has got this down pat.
