Eva Chen took to Instagram today to announce from Facebook’s New York headquarters that she would be joining Instagram as head of fashion partnerships. “Beyond excited to announce that I’ll be joining the brilliant team at Instagram as head of fashion partnerships!” said Chen on her Instagram. The message was preceded by several emojis, which Chen said was in celebration of today being #worldemojiday. The job is a newly created role and indicates that via Chen, Instagram is looking to tap into the fashion world in a big way, even though it’s already a huge platform in the industry with everyone from editors to fashion designers to models giving behind-the-scenes access into their daily lives.
Chen has long been an Instagram darling with 390,000 followers on the social media app and counting. She even took to Instagram to announce her departure from Lucky, where she was editor-in-chief for over two years after she was famously appointed to lead the title by Anna Wintour. Prior to Lucky, Chen held editorial roles at Teen Vogue and ELLE. She also announced her pregnancy on Instagram so the new role seems like a natural move for the much loved Chen.”It’s a new position and a natural next move for me,” Chen told Mashable. “I’ll be working closely with stylists, designers, up-and-comers with fun activations and finding new ways to tell fashion stories.” She added that her new role will not be editorial and that she will be focusing primarily on curating key partnerships. Chen will begin her new role this month.
