Photographer Russel Shawn Diniz
Russel Shawn Diniz has worked behind the camera, but his efforts have landed him right in the middle of some of the biggest moments on the fashion circuit. As Russel Photography, Russel photographs at London Fashion Week, the biggest fashion show platform in Europe, and pageants and shoots involving models and women with worldwide recognition. His work has featured in notable fashion publications, in global campaigns, but his most notable achievement came when his photograph of Miss England 2024, Milla Magee, was featured on the front page of the Miss England calendar in 2025, which Milla Magee dedicated to her ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ project for Miss World 2025, #GoFarWithCPR. This gave his work meaning and importance beyond fashion.
According to Diniz, striking photographs are achieved well before the photograph is snapped. “Photography is an exchange of energy,” declares Diniz. His philosophy has shaped his working relationships with the wide array of models and personalities he has worked with, ranging from Miss England, Miss World, and Miss Universe contestants to television personalities, pageant icons, and international models. His approach is built on trust, teamwork, and fostering an atmosphere where his subjects are understood. Whether it is the first-time model walking the ramp or the very well-known television personality, his objective is to understand their story, their mood, and the emotion they wish to convey.
His experience at large global events has honed his skill to keep creative and composed under pressure. In the wings during London Fashion Week or within the urgent surroundings of a pageant, his ability to keep his cool is achieved by his preparedness and observations. His reputation is tempered by the pressure of the surroundings, but also by his ability to recognize the strength of quieter moments, such as before a model appears on stage, or the look when a person slips into character.
His career portfolio has seen him work with various high-profile individuals, including Nathalia Campos of Love Island fame, Georgia Wood of Celebs Go Dating, actress and model Afton McKeith, who has appeared on the ITV British daytime talk show Loose Women, and was featured in a high-profile commercial for Nike with celebrity rapper Central Cee. In addition, his work also extends to Marlene Marie, a British South-Asian and Italian modeling sensation known for collaborations with brands such as Jimmy Choo, Charlotte Tilbury, and Kurt Geiger. Other models internationally known and featured in his work are Lydia Clifford and Sarah Hartley, who have modeled for brands such as Ralph Lauren, Berta Bridal, Hobbs, and Gymshark, to name a few.

A lot of Diniz’s work stems from pageants, which tie beauty to representation and identity. His involvement with models such as Melisa Raouf, the first Miss England contestant to go bare-faced, has shaped his perception of how photographs can influence and enable pivotal conversations. Raouf’s move led to an international discourse on reshaping conventional models of beauty, and Diniz photographed Raouf and the confidence and meaning behind such an important moment. He has also photographed Emily Cossey, who is the first titleholder to win Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International within the UK, and Emma Rose Collingridge, who is known for such landmark moments at Miss Universe and Miss Supranational, achieving a feat of becoming one of the very few women to place internationally with Great Britain.

Another important factor is the influence of designers on their creative process, and a specific example is the star fashion designer Aadnevik. As someone who has photographed the couture collection of Aadnevik, designs that have been worn by celebrities such as Beyoncé, Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and Shakira, his observations are about the role of fabric, motion, and craft. These clothes are part of the story and interact with the energy of the models to convey an image of individuality and designer intent.

Although the glitz and glamour of the fashion world envelop his work, the essence of technical perfection is what his profession revolves around. So, when it comes to Diniz, it is finding the right mix of sophistication, which is what high-end fashion shoots demand, and the essence, which is what gives a photograph permanency. He achieves this by having each and every shoot act as a dialogue between the elements of his art and the essence of his models.
These days, Diniz is shooting models featured during London, Paris, and New York fashion weeks, and also features models with international exposure, ranging from pageants to fashion shows to worldwide campaigns. His work is founded on the concept of what it is to photograph, not just document. Diniz shoots to connect, to magnify stories, and to pay tribute to authenticity, ranging from a moment behind the scenes to a worldwide cover.
