i-D Magazine Taps Alastair McKimm As New York Fashion Director

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) Looks like i-D magazine’s global expansion plan is moving forward with aplomb: Former stylist Alastair McKimm has been appointed as i-D’s New York fashion director. While this is an inaugural position for the publication, McKimm certainly isn’t a new face at the glossy. He started his styling career at i-D in London after getting a degree in fashion design from Nottingham Art School and has continued to contribute ever since. His styling work has been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, and Dazed & Confused while the likes of Helmut Lang, DKNY, Calvin Klein and Jil Sander tap McKimm’s skills for their ad campaigns. He also currently holds the position of fashion director at The Last Magazine, a bi-annual New York based fashion book.

The British glossy, i-D, was purchased by Vice Media last December, in a bid to expand its presence both globally and digitally. Earlier in November they relaunched their web presence with a heavy focus on video content. In order to enlarge their online audience, Danielle Bennison-Brown joined the i-D team as head of video, arriving from a position at The Nowness, an LVMH-supported site. Last month, i-D‘s fashion director, Charlotte Stockdale, decamped from the mag to take on the same title at Garage; Stockdale’s successor for the (global) fashion director title is Sarah Richardson. While i-D‘s New York offices are set to open soon, the publication also plans to develop headquarters in Paris, Milan, Brazil, Japan, China, and Southeast Asia.
