The COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown that has come with it have made life challenging for most people and businesses, especially actors and models. They are stuck inside their homes, merely waiting for it to be over. Emily Austin, who wasn’t comfortable waiting around, has started working as a sports journalist during this difficult time. Emily Austin began her career as a model and actress. She’s done fashion shoots for many magazines and has worked with a wide array of popular brands. She also gained feature roles in Hollywood films ‘Isn’t It Romantic’ and ‘An American Pickle’. Austin’s most recent booking is being featured on a billboard in Times Square for Klass Kulture. “I’ve always loved modeling and acting, but I knew I could do more,” she says. “I wanted to try something new.” She created a series called ‘Daily Vibes With’ for her Instagram and YouTube pages where she talks to acclaimed sports stars stuck in lockdown. “This is a natural career for me. I love sports and feel like I can relate to these athletes on a personal level. I’ve recently realized that I want to make sports journalism my career.” Some of her most famous guests include Mitchell Robinson from the New York Knicks, Enes Kanter from the Boston Celtics, Ben McLemore from the Houston Rockets, NFL player Zach Banner, and more.“I’ve found working on ‘Daily Vibes With’ incredibly therapeutic. It has given me something to focus on during quarantine and grow my skill set.”
One of the reasons Emily vibes so well with sports stars is that she used to be one herself. She played tennis in high school and was incredibly gifted. She stopped playing to pursue her college career full-time, but that sort of commitment never really leaves you. “Interviewing these stars makes me feel like I’m back on the court. I get the same adrenaline rush.” She was recently featured in a tennis commercial that aired on the Tennis Channel and hopes to continue sports modeling in the future as she works as a journalist. “It makes me feel powerful and reminds me of my roots.”
Although modeling is one of her favorite things to do, Emily Austin has set her eyes on becoming a sports journalist. She’s set to graduate in 2023 with a degree in journalism, and she has a bright future ahead of her.
