Hermès CEO Patrick Thomas Retires

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) Exec moves at a hallowed French maison: Patrick Thomas stepped down today from his longtime role as chief executive officer at Hermès International. The 66-year-old CEO will be retiring this year. As for Thomas’ successor? It’ll be someone Thomas has worked quite closely with, who’s got deep Hermès ties of his own. Thomas will hand over the reins to Axel Dumas, who has served as co-CEO of Hermès alongside Thomas since last June. Dumas is a sixth-generation member of the Hermès family.

Thomas was the first non-family member to head the company; he first came to the luxury label from Pernod Ricard, a spirits group, and served as managing director from 1989 to 1997 at Hermès. He then left to join Lancaster Group as president and executive vice president of its parent company, Coty Inc. Thomas returned to Hermès in 2003 from whisky firm William Grant & Sons Ltd. to take on the role as CEO at the luxe label.
